Schalch founded and headed the Royal Brass Foundry in Woolwich near London.

Andreas Schalch was a native of Schaffhausen and emigrated to England in 1716. He was head of the Royal Foundry in Woolwich from 1718 to 1770. Johann Conrad Fischer the Elder, the father of Johann Conrad Fischer, worked for five years under Schalch in Woolwich as a foundryman and chaser.
