Perkins, Jacob
9. July 1766 – 30. July 1849
An American engineer and inventor.
Jacob Perkins pioneered the technique of steel engraving (siderography) and was the inventor of the refrigerator, the high pressure steam engine and the engraving machine. Perkins owned, among others, a steam engine factory on Gray’s Inn Road, another such factory near Regent’s Park and a printing house on Fleet Street.
