The company Thomas Turton & Sons was founded in Sheffield in 1824 by Thomas Turton. Production focused on various steel products such as files, saws, springs and wheels. The company applied for a licence in 1966 to be able to engage in water extraction. It was ultimately purchased by Padley and Venables Ltd in October 1999.
