beer engine

object, machine, apparatus, tool, technical instrument

A hand-operated pump used in British pubs to tap beer.

The model still widely in use in Great Britain today is based on an invention by Joseph Bramah in 1797. Johann Conrad Fischer probably saw such a device on his journey in 1814. He called the engine a ‘beer pump’.
